People especially at the grassroots had to travel long distances for medical care. Pregnant women, aged and children were being transported on motorbikes to healthcare centres, a situation where by many women were losing their lives.

This has been a grave concern of the present administration of Gov Bello Matawalle. After careful study of the situation, he initiate a comprehensive health care program for the rural populace in the state in which he designed Ward Primary Health Centres Project across the 14 local government areas of the state. Under this project, each of the 147 wards of the state was provided with one Primary Health Centre. This is to ensure that healthcare facilities are made available and nearer to the people at the grassroots.

In addition to this, the government provides a kekenapep ambulance to each of the 147 primary health centres to ease transporting patients, especially children, old and pregnant women to the primary health centres, instead of using donkeys or motorbikes to convey the patients to the clinics.

Currently, the buildings have been completed in all the locations and government is equipping the 147 Primary Health Centres to ensure their proper take off and utilisation.

It is only the government of Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State that has complied with this Federal Government’s policy of providing dispensaries in all the wards in each of the local government areas of each state in the federation.

Plans have also been made by the government to monitor the utilisation of these health centres, in which local communities are involved in ensuring that the dispensaries are properly utilized and preventing from vandalisation.

The government also initiated a women and children Clinics project in each of the 14 local government areas of the state. This, the government believes will bring relative ease to the women and children in the state, interns of medical care and reduce the conjunction in our hospitals and clinics across the local government areas.

More health facilities completed under Governor Matawalle’s administration.

Already some of these women and children clinics have been completed and equipped and are now waiting for commissioning. One of them located in Tsafe local government is an example of those already completed and equipped with all the necessary hospital equipment and facilities ready for use.

In addition to these, the government of His Excellency Gov Bello Mohammed Matawallen Maradun has concern on the plight of the secondary healthcare services hospitals across the state.

When he took over the mantle of leadership as the Executive Gov of the state, he met the conditions of the secondary healthcare service hospitals very bad.

1. The buildings were dilapidated and inadequate. Take for instance, Talata Mafara, Maradun, Gummi, Anka, Tsafe general hospitals, just to mention, but a few of them, were left in devastated conditions, the buildings were dilapidated, no basic hospital equipment and facilities, no adequate doctors and other healthcare workers, etc. despite the huge sums of money the previous government claimed to have spent on the rehabilitation of these hospitals in the state.

In view of His Excellency’s care and concern over the healthcare of his people, he immediately awarded
Contracts for the rehabilitation of Talata Mafara and other dilapidated general hospitals acroos the state and works have already commenced and ongoing.

With regard to manpower in the health sector, more Doctors and other medical and health workers have been recruited and deployed to various hospitals and clinics across the state. Some indigenes of the state have also been sent abroad to study medicine and other related health care courses to bridge the existing manpower gab in the health sector.
